When a police officer initially checked on the dogs, they did not appear to be in distress, and Springfield Animal Control was unable to respond at that time.

However, a follow-up inspection just a few hours later revealed a horrific scene. The officer observed stacks of dog crates on the back seat, with significant condensation on the inside. Multiple dogs were crammed into each travel crate, and several were whining in apparent distress. She claimed that she had initially left her car running to keep the puppies cool, but at some point during the night, she had gone to a friend's house, leaving the animals unattended.
